LIVING IN TURKEY

Turkey is a country of massive diversity: within just one nation you can find unlimited vibrancy and positive energy...

Those considering moving abroad to live an affordable life in the sun with views of the Med or the Aegean have thousands of kilometres of coastline to explore from south west to south east Turkey.  Each particular resort has its own feel and atmosphere and it may take the individual many trips to Turkey to find their perfect spot.  Possibly the best way to begin a search is by taking a trip to Turkey out of season and basing oneself in or near one of the bigger resorts such as Kusadasi, Bodrum, Marmaris, Antalya, Alanya or Side and then going out each and every day and getting to know the real Turkey.

Younger couples might enjoy the vibrancy of resort living and benefit from the employment opportunities that present themselves in the long spring, summer and Autumn season.  Older couples and retirees might like living within easy bus or car trip of large towns such as Kusadasi, Marmaris or Fethiye but enjoy the seclusion and peace and quiet of lesser explored nearby fishing ports or inland towns.  Finally, for families with children for whom international schools are important then Antalya is THE place to go other than Istanbul or Ankara as it has the greatest choice of schooling and related child friendly amenities and social activities.

Whatever type of life you dream of having there’s a high chance you’ll find what you’re looking for inTurkey it’s an exciting nation on the brink of dramatic change, its government and the majority of its people are embracing Western traditions and standards without sacrificing their own culture, they welcome foreign citizens – especially those who make an effort to fit in and add to a community - and as the nation develops so it improves and month to month the standard of living in Turkey is improving.

WHERE IS TURKEY

Turkey

The lands of Turkey are located at a point where the three continents making up the old world, Asia, Africa and Europe are closest to each other, and straddle the point where Europe and Asia meets. Geographically, the country is located in the northern half of the hemisphere at a point that is about halfway between the equator and the north pole, at a latitude of 36 degrees N to 42 degrees N and a longitude of 26 degrees E to 45 degrees E. Turkey is roughly rectangular in shape and is 1,660 kilometers long and 550 kilometers wide.

Turkey has two European and six Asian countries for neighbors along its land borders.

The land border to the northeast with the Commonwealth of Independent States is 610 kilometers long; that with Iran, 454 kilometers long, and that with Iraq 331 kilometers long. In the south is the 877 kilometer-long border with Syria. Turkey`s borders on the European continent consist of 212-kilometer frontier with Greece and a 269-kilometer border with Bulgaria.

Because of its geographical location the mainland of Anatolia has always found favor throughout history, and is the birthplace of many great civilizations. It has also been prominent as a center of commerce because of its land connections to three continents and the sea surrounding it on three sides.

Turkey is generally divided into seven regions; the Black Sea region, the Marmara region, the Aegean, the Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, the East Anatolian and Southeast Anatolia regions.    The uneven north Anatolian terrain running along the Black Sea resembles a narrow but long belt. The land of this region is approximately one-sixth of Turkey`s total land area.
